carpe diem. carpe luna.

i am a lunatic with my own theme.

a lot of people tell me that i do a lot of things at any one time. i concede: i don't know anyone else in my circle who has the same career as i and maintains the same lifestyle as i. no one is crazy enough as i.

but i love doing everything at the same time. i love multi-tasking. i love the challenge of maintaining quality work despite the quantity of the things i do. i love running around in circles and crooked lines. woe to anyone who will ever think that taking the straight, narrow, ordinary path is a possibility for me.

carpe diem! and since i am a creature of the night as well, carpe luna.

two fighter brides

independence day 2008 was not an ordinary day for my best friend and her partner of four years. at sunset, they exchanged vows, promising to love each other for the rest of their lives.

despite all the odds, this leo and arian decided to commit themselves to each other, witnessed and forged by us their closest friends, and confirmed by the jealous sea. strangely, the skies were also in favor of the little ceremony: nary a wind created a rustle over the japanese paper lanterns that mich had painstakingly crafted by hand.

to say that arlene's and patricia's lives have been interesting is an understatement. fascinating, yes. complex, definitely. breathtakingly, madly, beautiful. i rest my case.

theirs is a relationship tested by time, distance, circumstance and temptation. to my two fighter brides, i only hope that the tests become less frequent, and that your love for each other continue to grow.

stay strong.

shopping on multiply

i am a neophyte at shopping online or here in multiply. but after the great experience i had with angel (and diane) via her babyuno enterprise, i decided to try another multiply site which also had great reviews, both online and in print. (i ordered organic baby bath products and deposited the amount due on the same day.)

this time, the shopping experience is kinda leaving a sour taste in my mouth. where babyuno immediately replies to your texts, this one barely even tries to make an effort. where i didn't have to call babyuno to confirm payment receipt, this one barely even acknowledged a desperate call i made just to check if they, indeed, got the deposit i made.

bad business. bad. and until now i have no friggin' idea if they really got my payment or not. but i have the deposit slip to prove it, just in case.

i will know in 24 hours or less if they will prove me wrong and make my choice to shop with them worthwhile despite the non-communication. and...

the conspiracy of silence

all throughout my 6-year stay in UP Law, i was surrounded by close girlfriends who decided (either by choice or by chance) to have kids while in school. they carried their pregnancy with ease and grace.

in fact, one of my closest friends, at the height of her first pregnancy (she had 4 children all in all while in law) during our sophomore year, even had the audacity to correct judge salazar in our crim 2 class:
judge salazar: mrs. perey, what are the elements of this crime?
lumen: sir, it's miss perey. (without batting an eyelash. and she was 6 months round when this happened)

when it was time to give birth, they didn't even have to file for a leave of absence. lumen's maximum "maternity leave" was 2 weeks, even after giving birth to twins. lyne's too.

yet never, NEVER, did i hear them tell me or anyone else how difficult it is to be a mom...

how praning you would be watching over your baby, scared of what would happen to him in his...

quick everything

since march 31, it's been "quick everything" for me...

quick shortened pregnancy of just 35 weeks. (oh. except for the labor part. let's not go there...)

quick recovery from CS. (was up & about in less than 12 hours. i refused to use a bedpan after those agonizing hours in the delivery room!)

quick meals (at the start, it was due to loss of appetite. now, it's just because there's no time. why is it that when i start to sit down & eat, rauf fusses & then wakes up??? must it be because he was used to eating with me for 8 months? hehehe...)

quick forays outside the house. (okay. just once. when i went to st. luke's yesterday for my check-up. couldn't resist NOT texting mommy to check up on rauf. hehe.)

quick banyo time (no yaya yet, just mommy helping us out. hence, it's me & rauf, one on one.)

quick weight loss (oh yessss!!! i am now at 118lbs, from my pre-delivery weight of 138lbs. and only in two, yes two, weeks!)

an...

shopping for baby

a statement from malcolm hall

As lawyers, educators, students of the law and citizens, we applaud the courage of Mr. Jun Lozada, who has volunteered information at great risk to himself and to his family.
We also, by this collective statement, express our outrage and indignation at the official response to the recent revelations on the NBN-ZTE controversy. We call on the concerned public officers to do what is right.

Public Office is a Public Trust. This is the core principle of our republican and democratic nation. In the wake of the initial revelations of Mr. Jose De Venecia III, Chairperson Romulo Neri and the more recent revelations Engineer Jun Lozada, the silence and inaction of the President and the Ombudsman directly violate this core principle.

Under the Constitution, the Ombudsman is an independent...
